
Steve has experience in all areas of commercial contract and tort litigation, including real estate and securities based financing, corporate restructuring, class and derivative actions involving the issuance, sale, and value of securities under Nevada and federal statutes; insurance coverage; construction; public utility; antitrust; and trademark disputes.
Steve has been named one of “The Best Lawyers in America” for more than 20 years by Best Lawyers®. He is currently listed as a Best Lawyer® in Commercial, Construction, Intellectual Property, and Real Estate Litigation. Most recently, the Best Lawyers® publication named him Las Vegas’ “2011 Lawyer of the Year” in “Bet-the-Company Litigation” and the “2012 Lawyer of the Year” for Construction Litigation. Steve has also received the highest ranking available by Chambers USA as has been recognized as one of Nevada’s Litigation Stars by Benchmark Litigation.
Steve was one of MGM Grand’s lead counsel in defense of MGM following the 1980 fire (MDL 453), and in the successful business interruption/property damage insurance coverage litigation that followed during the next several years. He represented Hilton Hotels Corp. following the fire that closed the Las Vegas Hilton in 1981 to obtain insurance coverage and settlement of the case; American Pacific Corporation several years later in its successful jury defense of a federal securities fraud class action; Microsoft in its successful defense of a state-law based antitrust suit; and Albert D. Seeno Construction Co. in its litigation with its insurers and the contractor responsible for a multi-million dollar class action tort award against the company in Reno, Nevada, which Steve was hired post-verdict to resolve.
Steve has also successfully represented pharmaceutical companies and automobile and aircraft manufacturers in product disputes; hospitals in acquisition/disposition actions; MGM Mirage and its affiliates in a variety of commercial disputes; Harrah’s Entertainment in artist performance contract disputes; Nevada Power Company and Sierra Pacific Power Co. (now NV Energy) in administrative rate challenges and in contract and tort lawsuits; Southwest Gas Co. in a failed merger dispute; residential community developers contesting fraudulently-filed mining claims; and other individuals and entities in all manner of litigated disputes, particularly before juries.
